Editing is great if:

• you want help rephrasing some ideas
• your text is already in strong shape and just needs to be “polished”
• your text is not strong yet, but the deadline is soon — so you need hands-on help to “up-level” it fast
• you want detailed fixes and feedback throughout a whole text — not just big-picture suggestions

CONSULTATION
Do you just want someone to review your text and give personalized tips on how to strengthen it yourself? Then a consultation is a good choice!

Consultations are great if:

• your text is still in a developmental stage (e.g., disorganized, underdeveloped, etc.)
• you’ve been told that the text has some problems, but you’re not sure what they are
• you plan to make big changes (e.g., rewriting some parts, removing others), so you don’t need to fix the individual sentences right now, as you might delete them; you’d just like a few pointers
• you’re a strong writer, so you feel confident about editing your own work; you just want an outside perspective before you do that
• in-depth editing is not in your project’s budget, but you’d still like personalized feedback from a professional before submitting your work

In a nutshell, consultations are more “hands-off” (as in, you make most of the edits yourself) and focused on the big picture. Consultations are usually less time-intensive than editing services.

What does a consultation entail?

A consultation takes about 2–3 hours for a standard-length document. I start by spending about half an hour doing a copyedit of your text in order to get a deep sense of your writing needs and offer you some granular feedback.

After that, I “zoom out” and read carefully through the remainder of your text without making any changes. Instead, I only make notes about trouble spots and possibilities for improvement.

I can send your sample edits and feedback via email, just like I do with my normal editing services — so there’s no need for you to schedule a real-time appointment with me!

Rates: My consultation rate is $120 / €120 for documents of 20 standard pages or less. Please inquire about pricing for longer documents.
